If you’re a dog lover, it’s upsetting to you when you hear of a dog being mistreated. Maybe even angry that the innocent dog isn’t living the life that he/she deserves.
I am one of those dog lovers.
It took us 6 years to find the perfect match for our boy, Titan. The Princess who would bless our Castle needed to be about the same age, disposition, and size as our boy. I know what a “bully” he can be, as well as thinking he is the Alpha of the Castle.
The Princess Who Believed in Happily Ever After
One day while strolling through my Facebook feed, I stumbled upon this cute little girl. She was around 7 years old American Pit Bull Terrier/Boxer mix and living in a shelter. I saw her face and I knew I had to meet her. I read her information on Facebook and on a Petfinder-like site. She appeared to be just what we were looking for.
After talking to the shelter and finding out more about her, I decided to ride over to the shelter to meet her.
She was adorable but not interested in me nor the treats I brought her. It really wasn’t her fault though because she wasn’t feeling well. She was undergoing treatment for ear infections and had just been under anesthesia earlier that day.
This poor little “soon-to-be” Princess girl broke my heart. I wanted to take her home with me and give her the Princess life she deserved but wanted my hubs opinion first.
Her Name is Zue
Zue’s story is as follows. Apparently, she lived in a home with many other dogs. I’m inclined to believe they were more male dogs than female by some of her actions. I’m also lead to believe that she most like had multiple litters of puppies, “a breeder” baby.
Again, my heart breaks.
I took my hubs over to meet Zue. I’m not sure if he was more excited about getting a girl dog or the fact that I was all giddy in pibbleness, but he wanted her.
Because Zue still needed extensive treatments on her ears, due to pseudomonas infections, the shelter Administrator suggested we foster Zue until her ears became manageable. Zue was taking steroids and antibiotics for her ears, plus being packed and flushed. We agreed under one condition.
That Titan would accept Zue into our Castle.
Freedom Ride for Zue!
We asked the Administrator if she could bring Zue to our home. This would be a true test, as Titan is very protective of him home and pretty much wants no one there.
The day arrived for Zue to come to our home and I was filled with happiness. I also was very nervous about Titan accepting her into our home. He previously accepted another pibble girl into our home but was more than anxious for her to leave the next morning.
Amanda, the shelter Administrator, drove Zue to our home one steamy Saturday morning. The plan was to allow the two pibbles to meet during a walk. If that went well, a yard introduction and home would follow.
To my surprise and my hubs, Titan was tickled! The two hit it off!
What was funny was that Amanda recognized Titan from the shelter he had been at 6 years prior! She recognized his face! She also asked if we had behavioral issues with him, and in fact, we did.
Small world, right?
Back to the Princess
Zue seemed accepting of Titan and tolerated his immediate Alphas behavior. However, Miss Zue had a bit of Alpha in her too! This would be somewhat of a challenge for me as a new two dog mom. However, I was willing to do whatever it took.
If you dream a thing more than once, it’s sure to come true. ~Sleeping Beauty
After going over some rules of the fostering, this beautiful little Princess girl, who we call Zue or Zue Zue would soon find her happily ever after of a happy and loving furever home come true.
Unfortunately, they aren’t immortal
In August 2018, Zue was in distress. I took her to the animal hospital and found out she was ridden with cancer. After having previous surgeries, I couldn’t put her through anymore, especially at 10-11 years old. I made one of the hardest decisions ever in my life. I decided to let my princess run free at Rainbow Bridge. Cuddling her through to the end, I still have nightmares from the visions left in my mind. As I write this, my eyes are filled with tears. I’ll forever remember my Princess Zue Zue and await the day we can cuddle again.
